12/23/2023 0 Comments Family guy hot shots![]() Sean Penn's guest spot was just weird, and not weird in a good, absurd way, just plain weird. The bar music bit was pretty unexpected and it felt like something anybody would do in real life, and the callback to it was hilarious. Can they keep his character that way and quit alternating to the smug, idiotic loser he is in other episodes? ![]() Peter was annoying as usual, and interestingly enough, Brian was actually likable. A lot of the cutaways were stupid and pointless. They didn't do anything with the plot other than say that anti-vaccination people are bad. I sometimes question why I still watch new episodes of this show. This one was just tasteless for the sake of being tasteless. It's interesting because American Dad also made a Heath Ledger joke but the difference is, that was actually funny and had a point to exist. That Heath Ledger cutaway was one of the worst I've seen on this show in a long time. Especially considering the bits I liked in this were all fairly small little jokes that don't exactly do a whole lot to make up for this episode being as crap as it was, especially considering that one such bit was Stewie noting that the episode was off-putting. There was really stupid shit too like that Matrix cutaway, Instagram police, Peter's PSA, that Family Circus bit, upside down train followed by Sean Penn which coupled with the absolute dogshit story really brought this one down. Joe telling stories about the guys to his coworkers as though Peter's the one who's the butt of the abuse instead of him Peter trying to calm everyone down by pointing out that his measles could just be full body herpes. Peter pointing out the guy who bought the bullhorn at the park. Tom questioning the authenticity of Peter's picture. The guys making a little beat in the bar. Stewie lamenting the idea of a Lois story and pointing out that Game of Thrones is on. Lois awkwardly trying to read the pamphlet Peter's whole Interview with a Vampire bit being boiled down to "I'm just trying to reinvent my look. Like, generally speaking it's not like she's aware of him and Brian going on adventures so that seemed like something where they could've had her way more shocked. Also, Lois seemed weirdly unquestioning of Stewie getting as far as he did. Everything else about this story sucked balls and the ending was one of the biggest ass-pulls ever. Surprised at Meg bringing up Peter being born in Mexico (Which speaks volumes for FG's perception of itself and its fans when Peter was all "Nobody remembers that Meg"). Yikes, I know the point was to make fun of the Anti-Vax crowd but that sure as Hell didn't make Peter and Lois any less insufferable to listen to when they were spewing that crap. When Sean Penn saves Stewie, she insults him instead of thanking him, and it's really stupid. Also, as I mentioned before, Lois was pretty annoying. And then there's the Joker cutaway, which is awkwardly written and poorly animated. But instead of stopping there, Peter starts rambling like he's in a movie or something, which made it very confusing. The first is when Peter high fives a stoplight and some other guy comes by and tells him he likes his style. Some gags did fall flat, like two really weird cutaways. Some other good jokes as well, such as the guys making music, the Wachowski cutaway (even though it was of course pretty tasteless, but it's in-character for Peter) and some other ones I can't think of right now. Lois was pretty annoying though, but most of the things Peter did as an anti-vaxer was funny, in particular the PSA he did for TV. ![]() The plot had a nice, satirical bite to it, which no longer seems to be as common as it should be. It sucks because all the episodes he written on the show were great (although the gay marriage would have leave mixed reception but it was decent at best and not too offensive compared to this). If you ask me, after watching episode, you could have wish that he'd never returned at all. Even I - as a modern Family Guy defender - can have limits on how much the writers can go too far and this is one of them.ĭavid A Goodman had returned the show twice and he's currently a consulting producer (season 11 and 13). Overall, I did not liked this episode as all. I only chuckled on some of the gags that hit like a few cutaway gags, and I did like the guys using their beers as instruments. Even most jokes felt flat, like more unneeded fourth walls and explaining jokes, the beginning, Peter as Joker, and more. And I do defend the new episodes but boy this episode was so painful to watch. If you're wondering why I hated it, it's because I have autism. I wasn't looking forward to it probably because they decided to go against vaccine because they prevent Stewie from having autism.
